Last week, Columbusight was the first outlet to tell you about a major new development coming to East Franklinton.

Today we’re breaking more news, giving you details about new retail space under renovation on Chestnut St Downtown.

Located just East of the intersection of N 3rd St and Chestnut, adjacent to OH Pizza and Brew, local developer Day Companies is undertaking the renovation of several vacant single-story buildings into new retail and restaurant space.

The project, which altogether includes nearly 7,000 sqft of leasable space, will continue to enliven this once mostly-lifeless section of Downtown with new businesses and attractions. In the last few years, MadLab Theatre, Wolf’s Ridge Brewery, Restaurant & Taproom, and Elevator Brewing Company’s Taproom have all opened up shop nearby in previously vacant spaces.

Renderings, plans, and elevations of the project (seen above and below) show room for up to four tenants in the building once completed. The developer cites as the amenities the structure’s high ceiling height, wood floors, large storefront windows, and restored tin ceilings.

In a statement, Ricky Day, principal at Day Cos. said, “[We have] a vested interest in the neighborhoods where our properties are located and we own several buildings in close proximity. As with all of our projects, we work with our tenants to accommodate their needs in the best way possible.”

According to the developer, the new retail and restaurant space should completed and available for lease by the end of this summer.


In addition to this project on Chestnut, Day is keeping busy with Downtown development – he’s also planning a mixed-use renovation of the historic Madison’s and White-Haines buildings on N High St.
